How to add and populate Assignment Group Name fields on a record using Process and Flow

The following example shows adding and populating the Assignment Group name on Cases but instructions are the same for other objects as well.

 

1.    Create a new Field in the Case Object as follows (you can choose your own Object e.g. Lead instead of Case):

  • Field Name: Assigned From Group Name
  • Field Data Type: Text
  • Field Length: 255

 

2.    Go to Setup | Create | Workflow & Approvals | Flows

  • Create a new flow by clicking the "New Flow" button
  • Go to the Resources tab and create a new SOBJECT Variable (you can choose your own Object e.g. Lead instead of Case):

  • Go to the Resources tab and create a new Variable as follows:

  • Go to the Palette tab and create (drag & drop) "Record Update" from the DATA (you can choose your own Object e.g. Lead instead of Case):

  • Go to the Palette tab and create (drag & drop) "Record Lookup" from the DATA:

  • Save the Flow with Type Autolaunched Flow:

  • Press the Close button on the flow and on the next screen, click on the Activate link (in the Actions for the flow)

 

3.    Go to Setup | Create | Workflow & Approvals | Process Builder

  • Click the New button and create the Process as follows:

  • Press the Save button
  • Click on the Add Object and select Case (you can choose your own Object e.g. Lead instead of Case)

  • Choose the option to "Start the process" as above and press the Save button
  • Click on Add Criteria and choose "Criteria for Executing Actions" as follows:

  • Press the Save button
  • Click on Add Action, select "Action Type" to Flows and select the Flow created in the above step 2

  • Select the "Flow Variable" created in the above step 2 and select Case in the "Value" (you can choose your own Object e.g. Lead instead of Case) and then select the first option on the pop-up as follows and press the Choose button:

  • Press the Save button
  • Press the Active and then Confirm button to activate the Process

 

The Process and the Flow are now ready and will populate the Assigned From Group field on Cases.
